The Library of Congress Motion Picture, Broadcasting and Recorded Sound Division (MBRS) In 1942, recognizing the importance of motion pictures and the need to preserve them as a historical record, the Library began the collection of the films themselves. From 1949 on these included films made for television. Today the MBRS has responsibility for the acquisition, cataloging and preservation of the motion picture and television collections. The Imperial War Museum Film & Video : There are over 22,000 catalogue records of film & video material in the Collections Online database. This represents approximately 40% of the films held in the Film & Video Archive of the Imperial War Museum. Some subject areas are fully covered by the online database, for example the First World War, while for others the information currently available covers only a small proportion of the films held, such as the campaign in Italy in the Second World War.
